Meet the Tutors, the Staff & the Guest Lecturers!

Jamie Thomas

Jamie is a Berlin based interaction designer, producer and is also known as the artist Bannau. He is a tutor extraordinaire of electronic music and music production and specialises in pushing the boundaries of electronic music performance.

Jamie started his teaching career at the Newport School of Art, Media and Design before moving to Berlin. He was invited to give a presentation at CTM 2014 on some of his previous research and its relation to computer interfacing for music performance.

Jamie is part of our management team and is specifically responsible for all degree programmes here at dBs Music Berlin

Ainsley Adams

Ainsley has clearly been busy! For starters, he has 2 Latin Grammies to his name, has engineered for various major artists/labels including Beverley Knight’s ‘Soul UK’ , Charlotte Church’s ‘Back to Scratch’, Jesse & Joy’s ¿Con Quien se Queda el Perro? plus much of the pre production work for Lisa Marie Presley’s ‘Storm & Grace’.

In between all of that he was studio manager and in house engineer for Kensal Town studios in London, engineer/programmer/co producer for Deamon Productions and PA for multimillion selling songwriter/producer Sacha Skarbek.

Most recently he was sound designer and live recording engineer for a concert project by the supergroup Apparatjik formed by Guy B (Coldplay)

He is still active working as a freelance engineer in Berlin whilst tutoring for us at dBs Music.

Rodi Kirkcaldy

Rodi has had an exciting career in the international music industry encompassing a wide range of roles. He represented his native New Zealand on the global stage in DJ competitions and worked as a touring DJ for ten years under the name Scratch 22.

At the same time he was also active in the studio producing and remixing music for a wide variety of acts ranging from hip hop to jazz, soul, punk and electronic as well as his own releases. He has released music through labels such as Universal, BBE, iK7, Ministry of Sound as well as featured on compilations such as Motor City Drum Ensemble DJ Kicks.

Although Rodi is still active musically composing original film scores he is now focussing his talents on creating a unique and relevant modern approach to music education at dBs in Berlin.

Alan Gleeson

Alan is a sound engineer, producer, musician, performer and music technology tutor. He has electronica releases under the name Razzkazz, house and nu disco releases as Stan Tropic and collaborations with Michael Mckenna producing house music and disco re-edits under the monikers Old Boy Network and Keep Schtum.

Alan specialises in a practice based approach to meaningful and expressive laptop performance and recently performed at the Club Transmediale festival in Berlin. He is also developing a multimedia project with Chistian Graupner called Feeedback5.

In January 2014 we persuaded Alan to squeeze his schedule and fit in some teaching on the dBs Music Berlin degree programmes!


Stefan Knauthe

Stefan Knauthe is a composer, producer, engineer and sound designer with many years of experience. He started his career as a recording assistant and has worked as an engineer and producer in iconic studios such as Hansa and White Wedding in Berlin and Boogie Park in Hamburg.

Today, major advertising agencies call on Stefan’s experience as a composer and producer to translate their corporate branding concepts into musical ideas. His own laid- back electronica productions have been released worldwide on labels like Renaissance Recordings, Ministry Of Sound and Klassik Radio.


Charlie Baldwin

Charlie is also known as the artist Kasket and specialises in raw recordings, live atmosphere, glitched up vocals and catchy melodies

His first release was with DiaMind records (Torn Letters EP). This was followed by a release on the highly respected label Screwloose Records (4her EP). Kasket has now placed his music with the legendary APOLLO (sister of R&S)

When not busy working on his latest release, Charlie teaches on our BTEC Electronic Music Production & Performance Diploma.

Philippa McIntyre

When it comes to house and deep house music in New Zealand Philippa has always been at the forefront of the genre.

She has headlined and played all over New Zealand, from the widely acclaimed and influential Auckland nightclub Calibre to Dunedin’s famous Bath St, surfer town Gisborne’s chic clubs, Wellington’s Jackin’ Sandwiches and beyond. She’s been a regular artist at NZ’s premier electronic New Year festival Rhythm and Vines, and a long standing resident at well respected bi-annual festival Splore.

In her first brush with education she worked alongside electronic music legend Recloose at the Mainz Academy in New Zealand before moving to Berlin in 2013.

Idan Altman

Idan is a producer and mastering engineer specialising in folk, rock, jazz and electronic music. He currently freelances at Greve Studio, a highly respected studio in the Berlin jazz and classical scene alongside running his own mixing and mastering studio simply known as Altman Audio Service. Our Guest Lecturers

A Guy Called Gerald

A Guy Called Gerald is an iconic dance artist best known for his early work in the acid house scene of Manchester in the late 80’s, early 90’s. He started out with a group called ‘808 State’ before leaving to work as a solo artist. He had huge success with a track called “Voodoo Ray” He is still very active in the dance scene and is revered for his very unique and creative approach to making music as a musician, a DJ and a producer.


Mark Reeder

Although originally from Manchester and now living in London, Mark lived in Berlin for a large part of his life. He has worked with everyone from Factory Records to Paul Van Dyk and was instrumental in guiding Paul Van Dyk to international success. His musical life started in a punk band called “The Frantic Elevators” with Mick Hucknall from Simply Red. He is known as one of the godfathers of early electronic music.


Phil Harding

Phil has had an illustrious career and worked with an incredibly diverse range of artists including Nitzer Ebb, The Clash, Depeche Mode, Erasure, Pet Shop Boys, Kylie Minogue, Killing Joke, Toyah, Matt Bianco, Divine, Dead or Alive, Mel & Kim, Bananarama and Rick Astley. George Shilling

George started his recording life working under Jerry Boys of Abbey Road & Livingston Recording studio fame. He has worked across a wide range of musical genres including artists such as Gabrielle, New Radicals, The Corrs, Blur, Texas, Teenage Fanclub, Primal Scream, Oasis, Eternal, Boy George, James Brown, Marc Almond, The Fall, The Soup Dragons, Yazz and the Plastic Population & Ocean Colour Scene.


Ray Russel

Ray Russell is a star in the eyes of musicians across the world.A professional guitarist at the age of 16 with John Barry, Ray recorded his first solo album, Turn Circle, at the age of 21.

More than just a great session player, Ray has been a collaborator, front man, band member, arranger, composer and friend to many of the world’s most influential musicians, bridging the chasms between different musical genres with ease.

Tobias Bublat

Co-founder of TO B Music, founded in 1999 alongside Meike Peters. To B Music is a production team focused on connecting people with brands on a unique emotional level. Mark Verbos

A product of the early midwest US underground electronic music scene, Mark Verbos started performing improvised live shows in 1993. He began releasing records in 1994. Since that time he has continued to perform live using nothing but hardware, improvising the set in the moment and DJ all over the world. He is known for his releases on Drop Bass, Djax-Up-Beats, ReLoad, Planet Rhythm UK, Wavescape and his own Simple Answer.


Orxata Sound System

From Valencia city, they have managed to integrate the legacy of valencian 90′s techno and mediterranean tradicional sounds with many peripheral rhythms like cumbia, kuduro, funk carioca, moombahton and dubstep.

Characterized by a firm commitment to free culture, publishing since birth all our works on the Internet under Creative Commons licenses, in addition to being one of the first bands using wiki technology and social networks to write our lyrics in a collaborative way.
